Husqvarna T300RS 'Compact' Petrol (Gas) Cultivator or a Mantis Tiller for Your Garden Cultivator

You can be forgiven for thinking that tilling is something that farmers do, and have done for thousands of years. But even the average gardener does lots of tilling and cultivating, although the term “tilling” may not come into a conversation. When we dig, rake, hoe and other soil preparation and maintenance tasks on out flower beds and vegetable gardens, we are “tilling” and “cultivating”.
The modern day gardener is blessed with the possibility of using highly mechanized machinery in the same way the farmer is. On a much smaller scale, of course, but nonetheless, the garden roto tiller (or rototiller) or cultivator is now a part of the gardening scene.
Thinking of a roto tiller you may well imagine rotivating a large area, although this not need be so, especially for the busy modern gardener with a large garden and full time job. Garden tiller/cultivators can be used on a small scale too, being lightweight and maneuverable compared to the older design tillers aimed at the farmer.
When you talk of a garden roto tiller, the name Mantis may well come to mind, especially in the USA. But there are others, and one that is sought after is Husqvarna. For example, the Husqvarna T300RS 'Compact' Petrol (Gas) Cultivator is designed for light duty domestic use. They are not as easy to get hold of in the USA as they are in Europe, but they do give you an alternative to Mantis. The Husqvarna T300RS 'Compact' is lightweight for easy use in the garden, although at about 26 lbs in weight are a bit heavier than Mantis equivalents. Nevertheless, the Husqvarna may be a name worth considering, especially if you are based in Europe.
Coming back to the Mantis range of tiller cultivators, they have three models currently advertised on their site. Pictured above is the Mantis 4 cycle Tiller/Cultivator, which at the time of writing sells for about $450. At about $100 come the Mantis 2 cycle Tiller/Cultivator and the Mantis Electric Tiller/Cultivator. Take your time and think carefully about which garden tiller suits your needs, circumstances and budget best.
